How can SAP MDG create a follow-up work item to maintain BOM, PIR, or Production Versions after a material Change Request is activated?

Use a customer-specific follow-up workflow after the material Change Request is activated: create a dialog work item, send it to the MDG Inbox/POWL, and open a customer Web Dynpro app that receives the Change Request ID and Work Item ID so users can maintain BOM, PIR, PV, or similar related objects outside the closed CR.

Use a customer-specific follow-up workflow after the material Change Request is activated. The guide’s pattern is: activate the main material CR, trigger a background follow-up activity, create a dialog work item, show it in MDG Inbox/POWL, and open a custom Web Dynpro application for BOM, PIR, PV, or other related-object maintenance. The UI should provide Actions, Description, and Links, and it must receive both the Change Request ID and the Work Item ID.

Process flow

  1. Process the material master through the normal SAP MDG Change Request.
  2. Activate the Change Request successfully.
  3. Trigger a customer-specific background follow-up workflow.
  4. Create a dialog work item for the related-object maintenance task.
  5. Assign the task to the responsible user group, role, or department.
  6. Expose the work item in MDG Inbox/POWL.
  7. Open a customer-specific Web Dynpro application from the work item.
  8. Provide links to BOM, PIR, PV, or other related-object maintenance transactions/systems in the UI.
