How should I prepare MDG-F for the Integrated Cost Element Maintenance simplification after SAP S/4HANA 1809 conversion?
After SAP S/4HANA 1809, MDG-F still supports Cost Element governance, but the process is aligned more closely with G/L Account maintenance. Before conversion, close open CRs, activate the prerequisite business functions, complete the migration report, adjust ECC replication filters, and update the G/L Account UI and controlling menu.

After SAP S/4HANA 1809, Integrated Cost Element Maintenance in MDG-F is simplified so Cost Element handling is integrated more closely into G/L Account maintenance. The backend conversion is only a prerequisite; the MDG-specific work is to close open change requests, activate the required business functions, complete migration, and then adjust replication, UI, and menu settings.
Process flow
- Complete the SAP S/4HANA backend conversion first.
- Close open CRs for ACCOUNT, ACCCDET, and CELEM.
- Activate MDG_FOUNDATION_9.
- Verify SECC, T077S / KTOKS = SECC, and T030 / CO1.
- Use GL_ACCOUNT_MASTER_DERIVE if customer-specific derivation is needed.
- Activate MDG_FINANCIALS_8.
- Confirm that USMD_FIN_S4MIGRATION finishes successfully.
- Activate MDG_S4_FINANCIALS_8 for the S/4HANA-specific behavior.

Show the new Controlling Data UIBB by setting the Hidden Element of MDGF_0G_FI_ACCOUNT_CTRAREAS to Visible and hide the old MDGF_0G_FI_ACCOUNT_CELEMS if required.
Replication model / ECC target filter for Account messages
Exclude Account type S from Account replication to ECC while keeping Cost Element replication available.
