How do I move MDG-governed Material Master fields to another MM0x screen in the ECC backend?
Use a custom Material Master subscreen in the ECC backend, not maintenance-status changes. Copy a suitable Basic Data screen, add the required fields, then assign the customer subscreen in the relevant screen sequence and test in MM01/MM02/MM03.

MDG-governed Material fields that sit on backend views may disappear when only Basic Data maintenance status is available. The SAP guide’s solution is to create a custom Material Master subscreen in the ECC backend, copy the required fields onto a Basic Data screen, and then assign that custom subscreen in the applicable screen sequence.
Process flow
- Identify the MDG-governed backend field that is missing in MM01/MM02/MM03.
- Do not change maintenance-status handling just to expose the field.
- Open SPRO and navigate to Logistics - General -> Material Master -> Configuring the Material Master -> Create Program for Customized Subscreens.
- Create a Y/Z function group; the guide example uses ZMDG_MAT.
- Record the generated main program; the example is SAPLZMDG_MAT.
- Use F1 -> Technical Details to identify each field's original program and screen.
- Identify the target Basic Data subscreen; the example uses SAPLMGD1/2001.
- Analyze the screen access sequence by checking Industry Sector, Transaction, and resulting Screen Sequence; the example sequence is V1 and transaction reference 01 for MM01/MM02/MM03 in the guide example context. Copy the relevant standard
